Most people would associate Israel with images of war when pondering upon the subject, yet this exceptional exhibition presents the first decades of the State of Israel through humor and caricatures.

The central figure of the exhibition is Srulik, representing the young nation, dressed in the traditional Israeli outfit of the 40s and 50s. Created in 1956 by the famed caricaturist Kariel Gardosh, aka Dosh in 1956, Srulik became the non-official symbol of Israel. Gardosh himself, like most notable humorists and caricaturists in Israel in the 1960s was born in Hungary. The Srulik exhibition will be opened by the curator, Dosh’s daughter Daniella Gardosh-Santo on September 3, 2010 in the FUTUREAL exhibition room, with English and Hebrew workshops and guided tours on the following day.
